Mortgage Relief

What is Mortgage Relief? 

Mortgage Relief is available in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales, ACT and Western Australia.  Mortgage Relief is a short-term assistance to people experiencing difficulties with their home loan repayments, as a result of an unforeseen change in circumstances.   These changes may be due to unemployment, accident, illness or some other crisis. 

Mortgage Relief may be provided by one of the following means, depending on which State you apply within: 

  • A percentage of your income paid each month to your mortgage; or 
  • A loan is provided by way of an interest free loan that must be repaid and is provided by the State Government 

Security

Security will be required by way of a registered mortgage on the title of your property and will require consent by your existing mortgagee. 

Eligibility 

Eligibility requirements vary from State to State, but some of the general criteria are as follows: 

  • You must be an owner occupier and have every intention of maintaining ownership
  • You must be financially distressed and in danger of losing your home
  • Sufficient equity in your home to provide security for any assistance given
  • You cannot own other real estate
  • You will be able to resume normal loan repayments when you stop receiving assistance
